Monument in opdracht van Amnesty International
Nabestaanden van gevallen slachtoffers, die op gruwelijke wijze vermoord zijn of verdwenen in Noord West Colombia verzochten om een monument. Amnesty International gaf hier aan gehoor, zij vroegen mij om hier belangeloos aan mee te werken. Om op die manier aandacht te vragen voor de aanhoudende schendingen van mensenrechten en gewelddadigheden in Colombia. De mensen waren weggevlucht vanwege het geweld in hun regio, sinds 2000 zijn zij teruggekeerd als vredesgemeenschap in de hoop hierdoor minder gevaar te lopen voor guerrilla's en paramilitairen. Het monument is samen met hen opgebouwd. Geplaatst in het dorpje Nueva Vida, provincie Choco aan de Cacarica rivier. EEen deel van de handen zijn verzameld in Nederland tijdens het Mundial festival waar we de bezoekers vroegen hun solidariteit te tonen door hun hand uit te reiken naar de slachtoffers van de burgeroorlog in Colombia.
Relatives of fallen victims, who were murdered in a gruesome way or disappeared in North West Colombia, requested a monument. Amnesty International complied with this, they asked me to participate in this selflessly. In order to draw attention to the ongoing violations of human rights and violence in Colombia. The people had fled because of the violence in their region and since 2000 they have returned as a peace community in the hope that this will reduce the risk of guerrillas and paramilitaries. The monument was built together with them. Located in the village of Nueva Vida, province of Choco on the Cacarica river. Some of the hands were gathered in the Netherlands during the
Mundial festival where we asked the visitors to show their solidarity by reaching out to the victims
of the civil war in Colombia.
